Goji Berry Tea with Jujubes

From my recent trip to Singapore, I got back a couple of food items not easily available or cooked with in India: dried goji berries (also called wolfberries) and Chinese dates (also called jujubes). I went on to learn more about how these ingredients could be used, was especially struck with the idea of goji berry tea and resolved to make it in my own kitchen.

Pears complement greens beautifully in juices. Their sweet, aromatic flesh adds volume and rich flavor to juice, masking less-pleasant ingredients (thinking kale?) in the mix. Pears are a good source of vitamins C and K, along with essential minerals.

This pear mint ginger juice dresses the goodness of raw ginger and mint in a pear base. Ginger and mint have digestive/medicinal properties; combined with pears, this juice works wonderfully as a palate cleanser.

Sattu, or roasted gram flour, was once a litttle-known staple of rural Bihar. Not anymore. With more awareness of sattu’s nutritive profile – high protein, low glycemic index, high fiber, low sodium – “poor man’s protein” sattu is now hailed as superfood.

Is there a delight greater than discovering that tasty comfort food is also extremely healthy, and that extremely healthy is also extremely affordable?

This sattu jaljeera drink combines sattu with jaljeera (cumin-based spice). It is really quick to put together and needs no cooking or fancy processing equipment. A great post-workout drink or colon cleanser on the day after a heavy meal.
